Will homosexuals overcome crisis or not?
Thursday, 26 March 2009
New big research of Institute of Williams at University of California in Los Angeles which deals with gay’s problems showed that members of LGBT community also are distressed for the crisis, as well as other citizens. Newspaper "USA Today" tells that "lesbian couples have more chances to become poor, than married heterosexual couples, and children of homosexual parents twice more often live in poverty in comparison with traditional families" - informs gay.ru

Our edition addressed for the comment to inter-regional movement for the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals in Russia, LGBT Rights, to the chairman of coordination council Nechaev Noir: Our society will grasp the given research with pleasure as a proof that gays are insufficiently provided to bring up children, and they should be brought up by heterosexual families. However it is obvious that among homosexuals there are rich and poor people – as well as in any other group of the population. Precisely on the average women also were always poorer than men, also representatives of ethnic minority were always poorer. The same research showed that lesbians on the average are poorer than gays due the gender discrimination.

It is necessary to notice that homosexual families with children it is more often female families, because for woman it is easier biologically to get a child. Lesbian family on the average earns less in connection with gender discrimination (women have lower salaries), and besides she risks to face with discrimination. In a family of two women the average income will be less, than in a family of two men. We should not forget that in case of pregnancy woman will be compelled not to work for some time what affects family incomes.

So gays and lesbians, as well as representatives of other communities, have the different social status. The only difference is that homosexuals are limited in the rights by that they are not equal with heterosexuals. For this reason they do not have social security. In other words, there are no privileges which have each heterosexual family: on rent, payment of utilities, on medical services.

Speaking about Europe, and looking at Russia, to be honest, "it is scaring", as in case of necessity (inheritances, guardianship over a child, medical support), a homosexual family is deprived in all legal aspects of a family, even in official registration of their union. Their common life has no legality; it is not even a civil marriage. Our problem at the given stage is a construction of a civil society, with inclusion LGBT community in it, for this purpose we hold seminars and trainings for LGBT representatives, with a purpose to raise level of their consciousness in the rights so that they could learn to lobby with their interests in courts and in social services.
